September Meeting -  Pond Branch Airport (PBA) - 9/21/2014

Final for PBA Runway 29

Our September meeting was held at Eddie and Sandy Price's Pond Branch Airport on September 21st, 2014. They provided us with an excellent meal of "fall-off-the-bone" barbequed ribs, BBQ, vegetables, slaw, salads, desserts, tea and soft drinks. Thanks Eddie and Sandy! Most participants drove in, but four pilots flew their planes in (Bo from Whiteplains, Al from Gaston, Les from Rock Hill, and Bud from Barnwell). Airline pilot, Bob Cottom, and wife, Nancy drove down from the Rock Hill area. Since the winds were rather blustery and favored downhill runway 29, two pilots flew over, but did not feel comfortable landing on an already short runway, so they waggled their wings and greeted us on the radio. Nonetheless, we had a grand time with about 35-40 members and guests attending. Our business meeting started about 2:30pm and finished within about 30 minutes. The August minutes were approved and financial report was given. We also discussed plans and responsibilities for our upcoming fall fly-in at Gilbert Airpark on October 18 (rain date October 25th). Chairman of our 2015 officer nominating committee, Leon Strock, gave us a report, and he indicated that candidates have been selected for each of four offices (President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer), and they have indicated their willingness to serve next year. We also discussed other upcoming fly-ins and events. After the meeting, a number of us hung around, sat around in a circle, chatted, told stories, laughed and basically had a good old fashioned "bull session". (Note: A few of the stories were even true Small Smiley Face) For photos of the event, click the thumbnail above.

August Meeting -  Pelion Airport (6J0) - 8/17/2014

Ray's RV and Al's Savage   Ron Provided a Smorgasbord for Lunch

Our August meeting was again held at Pelion Airport (6J0) on August 17th, 2014. We were very happy to see so many members in attendance and especially several members who had not attended in awhile, along with several guests. We all enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by Ron Lindsey, who brought a virtual smorgasbord of food, including pizza, roast beef sandwiches, stuffed baked potatoes, chili, trimmings, various desserts, tea and soft drinks. Thank you, Ron! Following a recommendation from last month's meeting, we limited our business meeting today to under 30 minutes and discussed plans for the remaining monthly meetings in 2014. We'll plan to meet at either Wexford Airpark or PBA in September (to be announced later). Our chapter fly-in this year will be held at Gilbert Airpark (SC45) on October 18th, with a rain date of October 25th. Our November meeting will likely be held at Pelion Airport again and will be our last meeting of the year in which we will elect officers for 2015. As Randy has served as president since late 2001 (13 years), and Libby has served since 2005 as secretary, and in 2014 as secretary/treasurer, they have both decided NOT to seek office next year, so it's time for a new slate of officers and a renewed beginning in 2015. A nominating committee headed by Leon Strock was selected and will submit a slate of willing officer candidates at the November election. As always, officers may also be nominated from the floor, but must be present to be elected. After the business meeting, Eddie Price gave us an overview of his trip to AirVenture 2014, along with comments from others who've attended previous AirVentures. July Meeting -  Pelion Airport (6J0) - 7/20/2014

July 20. 2014 Meeting

Our July meeting was held at the EMT/Deputy Substation at Pelion Airport (6J0) on July 20th, 2014. We had a great meeting today. It was very encouraging to see so many of you in attendance. Thank you all for coming. Members enjoyed a meal of fried chicken, potato salad, green beans, tea, and various soft drinks and desserts. In our business meeting, all members participated in a discussion regarding the chapter's future direction. Members offered their suggestions, indicated their willingness to assist with future chapter activities, and overwhelmingly expressed their commitment to the chapter. We also voted to have a chapter fall fly-in this year and allocated funds for the event. The fall fly-in will likely to be held at Gilbert Airpark (pending GIA final approval) in October or November. The exact date will be set once we have a better idea of other local fly-ins being held during that time frame. We also plan to have a limited chapter fly-in at Wexford Airpark in September. The weather forecast was not very encouraging today, so only David Nieves elected to fly in. Fortunately, the bad weather held off until later in the day. Lastly, we viewed a short clip shown on SCETV about the recent joint EAA Young Eagles event at CUB back in June. Click the thumbnail above for photos from Eddie Price.
