May Meeting - 5/20/2012

Jeff & Patrick Miller

Our May 20th meeting was well attended. Neil Deye made arrangements for Jeff Miller to attend as our guest speaker. Jeff has over 4000 hours in various aircraft. He has a private pilot license in single and multi-engine fixed wing planes, seaplane, and helicopters. His wife is also a pilot, and both of them have type ratings in the vintage T-28 aircraft. Jeff and his family own the grass airstrip near Gilbert, SC formerly owned by Elton Bedenbaugh. Jeff and his son, Patrick, arrived in their vintage Stearman aircraft (shown above). We enjoyed Jeff's presentation, and he joined as a chapter member. Joe Garner and Tom Brandon provided the meal of pizza, vegetable trays, and soft drinks. Glenn and Kelsie Temples again provided a dessert of banana pudding. Click the thumbnail to see more photos.

Glenn's First Flight - 5/12/2012

Glenn's First Flight

Glenn Temples has been trying for years to get into the air on his own. He's had some knee problems over the years and finally got those problems resolved. Recently, he's been taking tail dragger lessons. He finally achieved his dream of solo flight in his own Flybaby aircraft on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Barnwell County Airport (KBNL). Congratulations to Glenn, and to his wife, Kelsie, for their perseverance and achievement! For photos of the event, click the thumbnail above.

April Meeting - 4/22/2012

April 22nd Meeting

The weather for our April 22nd meeting was less than desirable (800' ceiling and light rain), but we still had a good time. Chapter members first enjoyed a lunch of spaghetti, tossed salad, various salad dressings, french bread,, iced tea, soft drinks, and banana pudding . Glenn provided the dessert and Libby and Randy provided the rest.

Randy then brought the business meeting to order. Secretary, Libby Berry, read the March meeting minutes, which were subsequently approved. Treasurer, Joe Garner, gave the financial report which indicates that our chapter is in very good financial condition.
Joe reported that he and Don Bledsoe had procured a number of folding chairs. Although the chapter had allocated money for the chairs, Don and Joe decided to pay for them. However, the chapter can use them for our future chapter events.  We also discussed upcoming flying events, including AirVenture, which several members plan to attend this year. Randy indicated that a joint event between our chapter and Gilbert Airpark (GIA) is planned for Saturday, June 9, 2012. The chapter approved $200 for food for the event; GIA has approved a like amount. Randy also asked members for assistance in providing future meals and presentations. Members agreed to do so. Joe and Tom will provide the meal at the May meeting, and Neil will make arrangements for the presentation. Also, welcome to new member, Chris Hoover.

After the business meeting, we showed photos from the Perry sailplane event, our motorcycle ride down on Monday, the PBA invitational fly-in, the Walterboro Wings & Wheels event, and some of Don's old photos. The meeting was then adjourned. Click the thumbnail above to see photos of the meeting from chapter photographer, Eddie Price.
