Lancaster County (LKR) Trip- 12/28/2012

Guys at LKR on 12/28/12

Five chapter members (Larry, Chris, Jim, Eddie, Randy) flew in four planes to Lancaster County Airport (KLKR) on Friday, December 28, 2012 to eat lunch at the Catawba Fish Camp located just across the river. We congregated at Pelion Airport (6J0) around 10:00am and departed for LKR about 10:35am. Chris flew with Larry and Eddie's brother, Regie, met us at 6J0 and flew with Eddie. We had a great trip up and back. Although it was a fairly cloudy day, the clouds were high, so they actually helped by keeping the sun out of our eyes and holding down the thermals. By 11:30am or so, we had all landed and tied down. We then met FBO manager, Paul Moses, and he let us use the courtesy minivan. Also, we met Jeff Cauthen and his friend, Rick, there. Jeff flew a rented C172 there from Monroe and had arranged to have another vehicle there for transportation as well. Thanks, Jeff. The "all you can eat" fish lunch was wonderful! After a leisurely meal, we drove back to LKR, fueled up our planes and departed for home just after 2:00pm. It was a great day and a fitting final trip to cap off a great year of flying in 2012. November Meeting - 11/18/2012

November Meeting 11-18-2012

Our last meeting of 2012 was held on the cool, cloudy, breezy day of Sunday, November 18th. Randy and Libby provided hamburgers with trimmings, potato chips, iced tea, and cake for lunch. Al provided hot dogs and two pies, and Tony brought cookies. After lunch, we held the business meeting in which we discussed the recent TTF/GIA Fly-in at Gilbert Airpark. We also discussed the prospect of raising chapter dues but finally decided to leave them as they are. The club authorized the chapter president to spend money to renew EAA dues and insurance for 2013. Then, we held our chapter elections. Randy was re-elected President. Both Tony Gantt and Steve Cromer were nominated for Vice President. A secret ballot vote resulted in a tie, so it was decided to have co-Vice Presidents in 2013. Libby was re-elected Secretary, and Joe was re-elected Treasurer. The meeting ended with Randy wishing everyone happy holidays. For photos, click the thumbnail above. (Note: Current members, remember to get your dues in by December 31st, 2012 to qualify for the $15 rate for 2013. Check our dues policy for further information.)

TTF/GIA Fall Fly-in - 11/3/2012

Our TTF/GIA Fall Fly-in at Gilbert Airpark (SC45) on Saturday, November 3rd was wonderful! We could not have asked for better weather; it was nearly perfect. We had at least 25 aircraft (maybe more) in attendance, and we estimate somewhere between 75-80 people. We had some great food, including pulled pork, roast beef in gravy, ham with green beans, fried chicken, chicken thighs, baked beans, various salads and casseroles, bread, tea, soft drinks, and many delicious desserts, among other items. In addition to TTF and GIA members and their guests, we had folks from Trenton, Whiteplains, Twin Lakes, Dolittle, Holly Hill, and as far away as Vidalia, Georgia. In addition to a great variety of planes, we had 3 Stearmans and a Robinson helicopter attending. We had two great seminars (Ed Fisher on SAA and Stan Schmotzer on C17). We also held a 50/50 drawing and celebrated the 82nd birthday of Ron Angerman's father, Carl. Everyone seemed well fed and well pleased (even GIA mascot, Buddy), and we saw lots of smiling faces. October Meeting - 10/21/2012

Kevin Receives Award

Our October meeting was well attended, and several members flew in. Don Schmotzer and Eddie Price provided a great meal of two types of chili and iced tea. Glenn & Kelsie again provided their excellent banana pudding, and Al Strickland brought a pecan pie. Prior to our business meeting, Don Schmotzer presented recognition awards to Kevin Wallace, Steve Cromer, and Glenn Temples for becoming newly licensed pilots. In the business meeting, we finalized plans for our upcoming fall fly-in to be held on November 3th (alternate date of November 11th) at Gilbert Airpark (SC45). Don Schmotzer gave us some excellent safety tips on upcoming cooler weather. Then, Steve Cromer coordinated and made an excellent presentation on ADS-B technology, which answered key questions about this newly evolving technology to be implemented by 2020. Steve gave part of the presentation and then turned it over to invited guest, Harry Sanders of Skyvisionxtreme. Thank you Steve and Harry! Two new members joined at this meeting: Leonard Self, resident at Wexford Airpark and Jim Matthews from Summit, SC and an owner/member at Gilbert Airpark. Welcome Leonard and Jim!
