Sport Pilot/Light Sport Aircraft has been a reality for several years now. The date to convert "fat" ultralights to ELSA passed on January 31st, 2008. However, aircraft owners who had paperwork into FAA by that date may apply for an exemption to complete the process by January 31st, 2010.
