November 16th Meeting, Gilbert International Airpark (SC45), 1pm-3pm
The November meeting of EAA Chapter 1467 was
well attended and hosted by Ron Angerman at his hangar, where members
enjoyed an early Thanksgiving lunch thanks to generous donations. With
quorum met, the chapter approved the October minutes, reviewed a
positive financial report, and reminded members of upcoming dues
deadlines and rate changes due to the lack of a December meeting.
President Eddie Brennan provided an update on proposed bylaw changes
related to quorum requirements, while Safety Coordinator Don Schmotzer
led an engaging discussion on aircraft refueling safety that prompted
valuable member input. Ray Scholarship recipient Ana Filich was
congratulated on passing her Private Pilot written exam and shared
updates on her training and fundraising efforts. The meeting also
included EAA’s monthly VMC question and the introduction of a new “Open
Forum” agenda item to encourage sharing best practices.
Elections for 2026 officers were held, with Eddie Brennan elected
President, Roger Kohls Vice President, Jim Matthews Treasurer, and
Debbie Philbin Secretary; Stan Lawrimore will continue serving as
Chapter Webmaster. Additional leadership appointments included Randy
Berry as Emeritus Director and Larry Philbin as Chapter Education
Director.
The meeting concluded with reminders about upcoming chapter events
before adjournment.
October 19th Meeting, Gilbert International Airpark (SC45), 1pm-3pm
The October meeting was held at Gilbert
International Airpark and hosted by Ron Angerman. President Eddie
Brennan called the meeting to order with a quorum present, allowing
chapter business and prior minutes to be approved. Eddie thanked Ron for
hosting and recognized the lunch donors for another great meal. Guests
included Sam Wilson, a new airpark homeowner building his own airplane,
and Nick Conrad from Aiken, who is currently taking flight lessons.
Members were reminded that SC Aeronautics Commission Pilot Directories
and Maps are available free to anyone who would like a copy.
Treasurer Jim Matthews shared that the chapter’s finances remain stable
but encouraged everyone to help offset lunch costs through voluntary
donations. He also reminded members that annual dues are now being
collected, with a discounted rate available through the end of December.
A current membership roster was circulated for members to confirm their
information and renewal dates.
Ray Scholar Ana Filich reported that aircraft maintenance and illness
have kept her from flying recently, but she’s continuing progress
through an online ground school she prefers over Sporty’s. She’s also
preparing for her written pilot exam, which must be completed by
November 30, and is looking for volunteer opportunities to complete her
required hours.
Eddie announced that the chapter bylaws are being reviewed—specifically
the quorum requirement for voting on chapter business. Members will soon
receive an email requesting their vote to establish a new quorum number.
Everyone is encouraged to watch their inbox (and spam folder) for this
important message.
During the EAA VMC Club segment, members discussed this month’s flight
scenario question and shared real-world experiences, adding valuable
insight for all attendees.
The next meeting will be on November 16, 2025, again at Ron Angerman’s
hangar, featuring a Thanksgiving-themed meal. The chapter will also hold
officer elections for 2026 and collect donations for Toys for Tots, with
cash contributions matched by Eddie and Kimberly Brennan.
The meeting concluded with thanks to all participants for their
involvement and support.
September 21st Meeting, Gilbert International Airpark (SC45), 1pm-3pm
The September meeting of EAA Chapter 1467 was held at Gilbert
International Airpark and hosted by Ron Angerman in his hangar.
President Eddie Brennan called the meeting to order with 26 members
present—just shy of the number needed for a voting quorum—so no official
business requiring a vote could be conducted. Members enjoyed lunch
provided by the “lunch bunch,” and attendees were reminded that the 2025
SC Aeronautics Commission Pilot Directories and Maps were available free
of charge.
Secretary Debbie Philbin noted that August’s minutes were posted on the
TTF website and available in print at the meeting. Treasurer Jim
Matthews was unable to attend, so Eddie Brennan delivered the
treasurer’s report, confirming that the chapter’s finances remain sound
and that there are no outstanding liabilities.
Safety Coordinator Don Schmotzer presented a briefing focused on the
importance of fully understanding an aircraft’s fuel system, including
magneto function, proper fueling procedures, and verifying usable fuel
quantities. Several members added personal experiences and additional
tips during an active discussion.
Ray Scholarship Update: Larry Philbin reported on behalf of Ana Filich,
who is studying for her written pilot exam with help from CFI Roger
Kohls. Completion of the exam by the end of September is necessary for
the chapter to receive the remaining portion of her scholarship funding.
During the EAA VMC segment, Eddie led discussion on the topic of
“Distress Condition,” highlighting when and how to declare distress or
emergency situations in accordance with FAA regulations.
Guest Speaker: Roger Kohls gave an engaging demonstration of the Windy
weather app, showing members how to access detailed forecasts and
meteorological data useful for flight planning.
Upcoming Events:
Triple Tree Fly-In (Woodruff, SC): September 22–28
Next Meeting: October 19 at Ron Angerman’s hangar – theme “Favorite Fall
Foods.”
President Brennan thanked everyone for attending and participating, and
the meeting concluded at 2:50 PM.
