November Meeting - Pelion Airport - 11/17/2013

Luncheon on Nov. 17, 2013

Our final chapter meeting of 2013 was held at the EMT/Sheriff's substation at Pelion Airport (6J0) on 11/17/2013 beginning just after 1:00pm. The meeting started with a BBQ luncheon which was a team effort of chapter members. Special thanks to Eddie & Sandy Price (BBQ), Steve Preston (buns), Leonard Self (soft drinks, chips, $20 cash), Libby & Randy Berry (plates, cups, plasticware, paper towels, ice), Glenn and Kelsie Temples (banana pudding), Millie Hoemer (pie, pecan tarts), and Tony Gantt (ice). Also, thanks to sheriff's deputy, Sgt. David Nieves, for making arrangements for our meeting location.

After lunch, we watched the October EAA video magazine containing several segments: (1) a tribute to Paul Poberezny, (2) spell binding footage of Yves (Jetman) Rossy at Oshkosh 2013, and (3) New EAA Young Eagles Coordinator, Sean D. Tucker. Just after 2:00pm, we held a business meeting in which we introduced new members and guests, discussed several recent fly-ins and events in October and November, future Breakfast Club meetings, and finally, held elections for 2014 officers.

Your 2014 officers/directors are: President: Randy Berry; Vice-President: Leonard Self; Secretary/Treasurer: Libby Berry. Also elected were Directors: Tony Gantt, Eddie Price, David Nieves; Safety Advisor: Don Schmotzer; and Photographer: Eddie Price. Randy announced that he plans to send out a survey soon regarding your satisfaction with the chapter and your suggestions and recommendations for the coming year. He plans to cover the results of the survey in the January, 2014 meeting. He then wished chapter members Happy Holidays, and the meeting was adjourned. September Meeting - Wexford Airpark - 9/21/2013

Planes At Wexford Airpark On 9-21-13

Our chapter met at Wexford Airpark (4SC7) on September 21st, 2013, and we had a wonderful time. We counted 12 airplanes and 25 attendees. Leonard and Kathy Self and family were great hosts for the event. Leonard manned the radio and helped pilots find their way. At 1:00pm, Kathy served BBQ beef, baked beans, slaw, macaroni salad, several other side dishes, rolls, and iced tea. After the main meal, we enjoyed banana pudding (Libby) and fudge brownies (Kathy). We held a business meeting at 2:00pm in which we discussed past and upcoming events, the SCAA Ambassador Passport program, Don Schmotzer's "Young Eagles" checklist, upcoming elections, and other issues. Several guests attended, including member wives, Dianne Schmotzer and Linda Lindsey. Budding sport pilot, Doug Westfall, was one of those guests and joined the chapter effective October 1st, 2013. We were also happy to have Wexford resident, Bob Bennet, attend. The meeting was over by 3:00pm and most members flew out shortly thereafter due to encircling and threatening weather on the way. August Meeting - Pelion Airport - 8/18/2013

Over Lexington County EMT Complex

Our August meeting was held at the Lexington County EMT Substation located at Pelion Airport (6J0) on Sunday, August 18th, 2013. Again, many thanks to Sergeant David Nieves of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department for hosting our meeting there. We enjoyed a lunch of chicken bog, slaw, pickles, and green and iced tea beginning about 1:00pm. Then, we held our business meeting promptly at 2:00pm in which we read July meeting minutes, had a financial report, and discussed a number of upcoming fly-ins in the fall. See a list of those fly-ins below. Since there are so many upcoming flying events in October and November, we elected not to have a chapter fly-in at Gaston Airport in the fall this year, as originally planned. We also briefly discussed tentative plans for a Young Eagles event sometime this fall. Then, about 3:00pm, Randy showed a 30-minute EAA video (July edition) featuring host, Jeff Skiles (EAA VP and co-pilot of the "Miracle on the Hudson"), a T-33 and an older Canadian ace pilot who originally flew one, some tips on fabricating/welding a metal fuselage, and some tidbits on preparation for AirVenture 2013. Although the weather had been IFR earlier, it cleared just before noon and Eddie Price, Don Bledsoe, and Larry Maner managed to fly in, and even David Smith and John Pipkin (in his newly purchased Champ) dropped in briefly after the meeting. Eddie Price again took some great photos of his trip to and at the meeting, which you can view by clicking the thumbnail above.
