Fly-In Status
Friday, 11/1/19: The fly-in is "GO" for Saturday, 11/2/19!
At this writing, the forecast for that date is for partly cloudy skies, light winds (3-6 mph) out of the NNE (early) to NW (later), little chance of rain, and cool temperatures (48 at 10:00am; 62 at 3:00pm), so it promises to be a beautiful fall day. Come join us and bring your jacket.

Notice
Please! We request that you NOT perform aerobatics or unusual manuevers over or near the airpark. Our neighbors on the north side of the runway have horses, and they get very upset if anyone flies at low levels over them or their homes. Also, we request that you please NOT park directly in front of the hangar. We'll have someone giving traffic advisories to aircraft on 122.9 and marshallers on the ground to assist upon your arrival. Thank you.

Our 2019 "EAA Chapter 1467 Fall Fly-in" is scheduled for Saturday, November 2nd, 2019 from 10:00am until 3:00pm at Gilbert International Airpark (SC45), aka GIA. In case of bad weather, we'll postpone the event until Saturday, November 9th (same hours). We'll update the above "Fly-in Status" periodically to let you know how plans are progressing, especially within the final week before the event, so that we'll have a very good indication of what the weather will actually be on that date.

This event will primarily be for EAA members, members of GIA and other local airparks, visiting aviators, and their guests.  Although no one will be turned away who is genuinely interested in aviation, the public is not generally being invited. We plan to provide a very nice FULL LUNCH MEAL between the hours of 12:00noon - 1:00pm on a "donation" basis.

The event will be held in Ron Angerman's hangar at 332 Downwind Leg Road, Gilbert, SC 29054. It's the largest hangar at the airpark located about mid-field on the south side of the runway. Aircraft parking will generally be on the SOUTH side of the runway because it's shaded, it's nearer to Ron's hangar, and also to avoid participants having to cross the runway as much as possible. We'd rather not have aircraft parked on the north side because it's not level and the taxiway on that side will be used by departing aircraft to get to the end of either runway.

Our runways are 27 and 9; standard LEFT pattern on both runways at 1500' MSL. We plan to have ground marshallers there to assist you upon your arrival. Please do NOT park in front of Ron's hangar. If you are driving in, you may park on either side of Downwind Leg Road, but please park off the paved portion so that local traffic may pass.

CTAF at Gilbert International Airpark is 122.9. We plan to have someone monitoring the radio on 122.9. If radio equipped, please announce "Gilbert traffic" at least 5 miles out. If NORDO (i.e. NOT radio equipped), be very vigilant for other aircraft near the airpark. Click the icons below and consult your aviation maps and websites for further information about Gilbert International Airpark (SC45). Be sure to check the "Runway 9/27" write-up on the GIA website (see link below), especially with regards to local towers in our area. One tall thin tower is listed at 1063' MSL about 2 miles to the NW about where the left downwind to base turn is located for runway 9, so we recommend that if the wind favors that runway, you maintain at least 1500'MSL until you see it. There's another tower at 838' MSL located only about 600' north of FINAL approach to runway 27 after crossing I-20. It shouldn't be a problem for you, but do exercise caution on final approach to runway 27.

If you need fuel, 100LL fuel is available at the following airports: Lexington County Airport (6J0-about 9nm SE of GIA- currently $4.15/gallon); Saluda County (6J4-about 20nm West); Columbia Metro (KCAE-13.5nm-East); Hamilton-Owens (KCUB-20nm east); Aiken (KAIK-21nm southwest),  Fairfield County (KFDW-29nm-Northeast), and Barnwell County (KBNL-37.5nm-South). KBNL also has 93 octane non-ethanol auto gas.
